Description
This nationally recognized, well established MSN program prepares advanced practice nurses who will provide either hands-on direct patient care (NP) or population-based care to vulnerable communities (CHCNS).  Two majors are available: Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). The nurse practitioner major offers: Family (FNP) and Women’s Health (WHNP). The CNS major offers Community Health (CHCNS). Both majors complete discrete courses in advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology and epidemiology.  All graduates are prepared and eligible to take the respective national certification examination.
Admissions Requirements
  1. Bachelor’s degree in the proposed field of study (BSN) or its equivalent from a college accredited by the appropriate accrediting association.

  2. Current Georgia RN license.  Out-of-state students must obtain a Georgia RN license.

  3. One year of clinical nursing experience prior to entering the nurse practitioner major clinical specialty courses.

  4. Prerequisite undergraduate statistics course or a statistically oriented methodology course.

  5. Pre-admission interview by nursing faculty.

Attendance Requirements
-The courses are provided in a HYBRID format.  The content for all CNS courses and 2/3 of the NP courses is delivered by Internet and 6 on-campus meetings per semester except for the 4 NP specialty courses which meet every Tuesday on campus. On-campus meetings are offered  weekday evening or Saturday depending on the course. All 3 CNS specialty courses are offered on Saturday.  Clinical hours are completed in your home community.
Transfer Policies

Currently GSU Graduate School allows only 6 semester credit hours to be transferred.  In order to transfer in credit hours, the student must have been admitted as a regular degree student when the courses were taken. See Graduate Catalog for further information. Preference is given to applicants who desire to work/live in rural underserved areas.  Minority and rural students are encouraged to apply. Requirements are subject to change

Special Program Prerequisites
All students must hold a current Georgia Registered Nurse license.
Tuition and Fees
This tuition rate is $147 per credit hour.
